How to Apply Masking Tape on the Edge Before Painting

If you want to paint the wall in your house nicely without spilling the paint on other surfaces, then you need to make use of masking tape.

This is the tape that can help you to carry your painting task perfectly.

You can use masking tape to protect the siding at the bottom of the wall panel and the siding at the top of the wall, as well as the door and window frames.

It is also useful for covering accessories that are difficult to remove (such as dimmers). Make sure to stick the tape on the edges, otherwise curved edges may appear when painting.

You can buy masking tape at any hardware store as well as many supermarkets, or make an inquiry from us.

You may look for masking tapes of different widths. This gives you more options and you can get those that can cover a larger surface so that the paint does not accidentally fall on other areas of the wall.

Before Laying the Masking Tape on The Edge

Before start painting, you need to do a little bit of skirting. I will give you an idea of how it’s done later.

Now, the first thing you want to do is to make sure that the edge is clean. This is because the masking tape will not stick to a dusty surface. Therefore, you need to brush the edge so that no dust is leaving on.

When you start to lay the masking tape, ideally you should start in a corner by ripping it slightly on an angle. By doing so, the tape will go into the corner better and you will have a nice sharp point. You need to make sure that you are carrying the tape nicely so that it won’t get ripped off in small bits.

Always hold the roll gently, line the tape up, and slowly push it down. Then, holding the tape at the back, pulling the roll along, and continuing on that.

Get the masking tape roll hard up against the wall as this will help to get a nice straight edge on the wall.

Keep going on to roll it until the entire edge is being covered with the tape.

Once you’ve done the complete section, get a putty knife with a rounded edge. The rounded edge is perfect for going back and pushing the tape back down.

You may use scrapers to push the tape as well but you need to be careful as sometimes the pointy bit can actually dig into your wall.

Make sure you push the masking tape down firmly so the paint won’t get underneath it.

When you’re putting a masking tape on and when it comes to a corner, apply it like you what I mentioned earlier. And when the tape has been rolled to the corner itself, once again using a putty knife to push the point and tear the tape away.

That way, you’ll get a nice neat corner every time you apply masking tape to the edge of the wall before painting.
