For over 100 years, the 3M company has been creating innovative products that make everyday life a lot easier for millions of people around the world. Probably their most famous invention is those pads of colorful sticky notes that you find in just about every office.
In fact, when it comes to sticky stuff, 3M has always been an innovator. The company invests a lot of time and research money into figuring out what makes things stick together. In 1925 they pioneered masking tape, and just five years later, in 1930, they introduced cellophane tape to the world.
It really makes you wonder how people managed before having the convenience of sticky tape to mend paper, and all sorts of other stuff we take for granted today. Another great innovative product they produce is 3M acrylic foam tape. This tape is considered the strongest tape in the world. Is this real or just a meaningless boast by a large company that wants to promote a product?
Well, if you do a little research online, you’ll quickly see that they can back up this claim with real life examples of how 3M acrylic foam tape is used to stick various materials together. While their acrylic foam VHB tape product doesn’t hold any official world records, it’s widely considered to be the strongest by many.
Coming up with this particular product took much time and effort, but if you want to know exactly what makes it so strong, you’re out of luck. Just like other big companies who have created unique products that are staples of everyday life, 3M closely guards the secret ingredients that make their special tape bond so well.
You can watch a video demonstration online of a test 3M conducted to show the strength of their VHB foam tape. In the video, a guy flings a 16-pound bowling ball against an aluminum metal sheet that is held together by metal rivets. Now, rivets are normally considered to be pretty strong, but they are no match for that bowling ball. After just two impacts, the rivets burst apart and the ball sails through easily.
Next, the same test is done with a piece of aluminum held together by the VHB tape. It takes 20 impacts from the ball before the metal finally gives. This is a great demonstration that proves their tape is 10 times stronger than the rivets.
Or why not find out for yourself and get some acrylic foam tape from us?
The acrylic foam is one of the key secrets that gives this tape so much power. The foam is airtight, watertight, and extremely high in viscoelasticity. Another feature that people like is that the tape is designed in a way that makes it very easy to use. It’s double-sided so that you simply pull off the protective cover on one end, lay it down where you want, then pull off the top cover. This makes bonding projects easy and fast.
This 3M acrylic foam tape is used to hold together all sorts of items that you wouldn’t normally think are held together by tape. One popular use is to assemble the walls of smooth-sided trailers, which commonly haul horses, tractors, and other heavy objects.
The average consumer can also find their acrylic foam tape made for more general bonding jobs like sticking your computer monitor to a desktop. Whatever you need it for, 3M has a foam acrylic tape that can reliably handle all of your bonding projects.
